Victor Duraes De Faria

Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics

Victor Faria is a Ph.D. candidate in Operations Research at the NC State University. During his undergrad, Faria participated in many research projects. From 2015 to 2016, he investigated the application of cooperative game theory to solve regulatory limitations associated with the allocation of firm energy rights in the Brazilian Power System. From 2016 to 2017, his research focused on the application of optimization techniques to investigate the impacts of climate change in hydro-dominant power systems.

From 2017 to 2018, Faria studied how the effect of field voltage variation could influence the parameter estimation of synchronous machines. And finally, at the beginning of 2018, Faria started to investigate the application of neural network models in streamflow forecasting and energy price forecasting for the Brazilian electrical system. Many of the previous research leads to publications in different journals and conferences. In his undergrad, Victor was advised by professor Anderson de Queiroz, Luana Marangon Lima, and Jose Wanderley Marangon Lima.

Research Interests

His research interests include optimization techniques, power systems, neural networks, game theory, electrical machines, and stochastic optimization.

Currently, Faria’s research is related to the application of portfolio optimization techniques for the site selection and deployment of offshore renewable energy technologies such as wind, wave, and ocean current. Also, Faria collaborates in a research project funded by the National Science Foundation, where the objective is to develop an open knowledge network capable of delivering flood information in real-time and providing useful tools to evaluate the risks associated with the forecasted flooding scenarios.
